ColYue E1

ø8mm Dynamic Driver

ColYue is a brand on which I could find no information at all. The E1's plain and unimpressive design would probably make you assume that these are just one of those cheap muddy earphones you can get everywhere.

That, however, is not the case. These earphones have some very impressive bass, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that they are bassy. Actually, these earphones are very impressive in their clean and crisp sound.

Truth be told, I find their sound to be somewhere in between MEMT X5 and DZAT DF-10 by their clarity, brightness and precision of the quick and punchy bass, but not as deep and overwhelming sub-bass as, for example, the ROCK Zircon. However, on a weak source, like a smartphone, I found that the MEMT X5 performed better when it comes to clarity, while E1 gets a slightly darker sound.

This unknown brand might discontinue this product at any moment, so get your pair while you still can. Your support may be the only thing keeping this one in production.

Sound signature: V-shaped

Pros

  • Super clear sound, especially on a slightly amplified source.
  • Punchy and accurate bass response, not overwhelming.
  • A very generous kit of ear tips, a shirt clip and a case, are all included in the tiny price of these earphones.
  • The cable was rolled perfectly in the package - you get a perfectly straight cable out of the box.

Cons

  • Slight clarity degradation on low-powered audio sources.
  • Plain design and an average build quality, about the level of quality you get with previous KZ products.

Comfort & Fit

These earphones aren't shaped very wisely. They are quite long and may be hard to keep in your ears. However, they are light, and the generous selection of ear tips will ensure you find the tips that suit you the most.

Lows / Bass

Deep and punchy bass. Sub-bass is very potent, but limited in depth. Will not being brain-shaking, it's responsive and never distorts. These earphones passed the bass shaker test without a single rattle, thus I'm more than sure that most electronic music enthusiasts will not complain one bit, as this bass is one of the most surprising things about these earphones, considering the price and the fact that higher frequencies sound so good.

Mids / Vocals

The mids are extremely clear and not overwhelmed by the bass. I would say that I could sometimes hear slight sibilance, most likely because of the sharp peaks in the high frequencies. However, these earphones are well-suited for both electronic and vocal-oriented music genres. You are guaranteed to appreciate that full and warm sound.

Highs / Treble

Crisp and bright highs, even if slightly artificial in their tone. I would definitely say that these are some of the most fun-sounding highs around. While not being the most detailed, the detail is more than sufficient for basically any music genre you pick. For the price of these earphones, such quality is mostly unheard of.
